Our Story and Values

Moving Mountain, Inc. was established in 2022 by Kabzuag Vaj, the founder and former Co-Executive Director of Freedom Inc. and Freedom Action Now.  After 25 years in the movement, she created MM as an organization for longtime movement leaders to continue their work/love projects to achieve gender justice and equity.   The concept of moving mountains comes from the understanding that people worldwide have changed and continue to change these oppressive systems through collective organizing and mobilization. 

Mountains form over hundreds of thousands of years. They are often seen as enduring, unyielding, and unmovable, much like patriarchy and other systems of oppression. However, with vigor, collective organizing, and mobilization, mountains can be moved and transformed one spoon of sand at a time. 

Our work at MM is to align our values, analysis, and collective power to create a world where women, girls, Queer, Trans, gender nonconforming (QT/GNC), and gender expansive folx are valued, loved, and leading. Investing in BIPOC women, QT/GNC leaders, and organizations is crucial to shifting and building people’s power, creating a new feminist moral compass and people-centered systems, and elevating those most impacted.
